Pay less for better nutrition
Ever wondered if you are getting the most out of the protein in pig feed? It’s a relevant question. The fact is, many pig producers are not.
While the high protein content of feed ingredients such as fishmeal may give the impression of being the best value for money, what the nutritional declaration does not reveal is how much of that protein is actually bio-available. The truth is a proportion of the protein content is not protein at all.
The nitrogen cover-up
The deception arises from the widely accepted use of nitrogen as an indicator of protein content. But, while proteins do produce most of the nitrogen in a plant or animal-derived raw material, some of it is produced by other components. This non-protein nitrogen is not only of no nutritional benefit – it is most likely to have a negative impact on pig growth and is a common cause of diarrhoea.
More real protein
When you buy HP 300 from HAMLET PROTEIN, you buy a feed ingredient with an optimised protein content that gives young pigs the best possible nutrition. Studies show that HP 300 results in less diarrhoea and faster growth – at lower cost than feed ingredients that, on the face of it, contain more protein.
What you need is the protein that gives the healthiest, strongest animals. That’s what you get with HP 300. Why pay more for anything less?
Facts behind the figures
Total protein content can be a deceptive indicator of the quality of a feed protein source. To determine the real nutritional value, it is necessary to break down the nitrogen content used to measure the protein in feed raw materials. This shows how much of the nitrogen is derived from amino acids – the proteins essential to healthy growth – and how much is non-protein nitrogen, with a potentially negative effect on pig health.
The graph below compares the protein content of HP 300 with other sources of feed protein. Although the protein declaration shows that HP 300 contains just 56% protein compared to, for example, 72% in Danish fishmeal, a breakdown of the nitrogen content reveals:
• HP 300 contains more amino acids – necessary for growth and wellbeing • HP 300 contains less non-protein nitrogen and hereby the risk of diarrhoea is reduced.

Proof behind the claims
Numerous studies have confirmed the key benefits that make HP 300 a high-value choice for pig producers:
• High protein digestibility • Low risk of diarrhoea • Efficient, high-value alternative to other animal and vegetable proteins
